If nothing else, the can is cool, but this java energy drink from Monster still only receives 3 out of 5 stars for a couple reasons. First and foremost is taste. The Russian java energy drink is both strong and weak at the same time. It tastes kind of like a Starbucks frappucino and has a strong coffee flavor yet somehow tastes watered down at the same time.

There is also a very sweet aftertaste, a little too sweet. It's not the same as adding a bit too much sugar to your coffee. It's more like someone added some sugary-sweet syrup as a gag to see if anyone would notice. In my book, the aftertaste is not desirable... at all.

One last note on this energy drink... it kicks more like a schoolgirl than a hardnosed Russian boxer as you'd expect. I found the energy from this drink weak and almost unnoticeable, quite disappointing.

Final Verdict:
I give the Russian Java Monster energy drink three stars for its watered down taste, sweet aftertaste, and schoolgirl kick. Maybe I'm being a bit hard but with a name like "Russian Java Monster", you expect more than a sugary kick in the shin. There are two things this drink has going for it... One: It is similar to a Frappucino, so some coffee lovers may become very fond of this drink. Two: I'm not the only one who is unimpressed with the Russian Java Monster which means it's been discounted at more than one store. Spend some time looking and you can find this drink for a major bargain over similar energy drinks. Just my two cents, which is about all I'll pay for this one.
